Sweeter up front with grain and corn immediately apparent, I.W. HARPER 15-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey then moves into notes of oak, raisin, caramel, spice, and vanilla. The finish leaves a long and lasting mouthfeel perfect for enjoying on the rocks, or neat to truly appreciate the full flavor profile.
ABV: 86 proof, 43% ABV
Ultimate Beverage Challenge 91 points - The nose delivers musty oak, orange oil and muted candy corn. This bourbon shows its age when you take a sip, as vanilla pushes the peppery heat out of the way. A grippy finish offers echoes of classic corn sweetness. (Apr 2016)
Malt Advocate 88 points - Diageo has “brought I.W. Harper home” after years of absence from the U.S. market with this bottling and a base bottling (see below). The source is “new” Bernheim, but with a different mashbill from the base; this is 86% corn. Nose is warm corn and oak, with some spicy clove and cinnamon notes. Great medium-weight body and balance, palate repeats the nose, oaky-sweet finish; well-integrated whiskey. But my eyes pop at the price. - Lew Bryson (Aug 2015)
